In May of 2007, Advanced Medical Optics recalled its Moisture Plus contact lens solution in response to a growing number of reports that linked it with a serious eye infection. The solution first came suspicion after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention received multiple reports of an outbreak of the eye infection, Acanthamoeba keratitis. Caused by microscopic parasites that literally enter the human eye, the infection is normally very rare, occuring in just a handful of our nation's 30 million soft contact lens users. But after a preliminary investigation, the CDC found more than 130 Americans with the disease; about a quarter of the contact lens wearers they studied were so severely infected that they lost part or all of their vision. In response, several injured contact lens wearers have already filed several Moisture Plus lawsuits.
Why File a Moisture Plus Lawsuit?
The Food and Drug Administration's announcement of the Moisture Plus recall emphasizes that scientists have not yet been able to prove that Moisture Plus is contaminated with Acanthamoeba keratitis. In fact, Advanced Medical Optics CEO James Mazzo told the Associated Press that "It's not a manufacturing problem or a contamination issue." Instead, said the article, Mazzo suggested that improper care of contact lenses caused this unprecedented outbreak. However, the CDC's preliminary report concluded that 58 percent of the infected people they found had used Moisture Plus; they estimated that infected people were at least seven times more likely to have used the solution than healthy contact lens wearers. The Moisture Plus lawsuit to which Mazzo was responding alleged that his company knowingly concealed this information from its customers. Savvy observers expect many more Moisture Plus lawsuits making the same claim. How a Moisture Plus Lawsuit Can Help
Manufacturers have a legal duty not to sell products that are too dangerous to use. When they fail in that duty, injured consumers have the right to pursue legal action -- in this case, a Moisture Plus lawsuit -- to compensate them for their injuries. A Moisture Plus lawsuit allows an injured victim to ask for money to cover the financial damages related to Moisture Plus injuries, such as medical bills or the cost of cornea transplant surgery. A Moisture Plus lawsuit can also compensate plaintiffs financially for any permanent loss of vision and for the pain, suffering and emotional anguish that their Moisture Plus injuries caused. If you or someone you care about has been hurt by Moisture Plus, you should consider a Moisture Plus lawsuit.Moisture Plus Lawsuit Case Evaluation Form
